Frequently Asked Questions
How can my child participate in your research?
Our research is conducted in our lab located in Miami at Florida International University and in local schools, preschools, daycare centers, and summer camps in the greater Miami-Dade area. We would love to have you participate in our research and we do our best to work around your schedule. We are generally open Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm. However, we also have appointments on a few Saturdays and we are often open during school holidays.
If you would like to participate in our studies, or are simply interested in getting more information about us, please:
Call us at (305) 348-9055 or Email us
How long do your studies take?
A typical study takes about 10 to 15 minutes, however we schedule families for 30 minutes so that you and your children have time to play in our family waiting area and so that we have time to tell you more about the study in which your child participated. Our studies are designed to be engaging and brief, but if at any time your child wants to take a break, we can stop the study.
I have more than one child. Is it okay to bring everyone?
Absolutely! All of your children are welcome to join us, even if they are not the right age for one of our studies. Siblings are welcome to play in our fun family waiting area with either you or one of our research assistants.
Can I be with my child the entire time?
Yes! Parents are welcome to stay with their child at all times. The only thing we ask is that you follow the experimenter’s instructions.
Will my child receive anything for participating?
Definitely! Every child that visits our lab to participate in our research receives a personalized certificate and can choose a small prize or gift. For some of our studies, we have provide gift cards.
Will I find out how my child did in the study?
Not exactly. For most studies, we are interested in the responses of large groups of children and not the responses of individual children. However, we can tell you about the progress of the study so far and periodically send out newsletters with updates on our studies.
Do you offer clinical or mental health services for children?
Unfortunately, we are not a mental health provider and thus, do not provide clinic services to children. However, we are affiliated with the Center for Children and Families at FIU and would be happy to direct you to the right person to talk with about your child.
